Digital Watermarking (SynthID)
Invisible noise patterns embedded into AI images to identify them as synthetic.
A visible watermark is easy to crop out. But SynthID is invisible. It changes the pixels slightly in a way you can't see, but a computer can read.
Built-in Truth
This mark survives editing. You can rotate, crop, or turn the image black and white, and the "AI Stamp" is still there. It's currently being built into tools like Google Imagen and Meta AI to stop fakes at the source. It's invisible ink for the 21st century.
Common Manifestations
Invisible Label: An image that looks normal to you, but when scanned by the 'SynthID Detector' app, instantly flags as 'High Probability AI'.
How to Spot It
- 1You cannot see SynthID with the naked eye.
- 2It represents a "supply side" solution—stopping the fake at the source.
- 3Knowledge of these tools is crucial for modern digital literacy.
